Covid-19 Challenges
Most important, but less visible, aspect of the Covid-19 lockdown is the social service function of the police. All throughout Kerala, local police agencies are tasked with enforcing social distancing and use of face mask, but our activities are much broader. The police are a primary port of access to State services, and the lockdown brings officers into regular contact with citizens needing urgent assistance. Police officers are also at the forefront of India’s public health campaign, providing information and essential supplies. In addition to this during the lock down period, the challenges faced by police are multifarious. Such as • Enforcing lock down norms. • Quarantine enforcement. • Boarder management. • Management of passengers at Railway stations/Airports. • Enforcing regulations relating to containment zones. • Issues related to guest workers. • Contact tracing. • Helping in the distribution of food and medicine and other essential commodities. • Facilitating of food and medical supply chain. • Enforcing the use of mask and social distancing. • Awareness campaigns both print and electronic. • Campaigns through social-media. • Other service activities. • Dealing with false/fake news. The entire police force under Cantonment Police Station, as directed, are mobilised and deployed for lockdown duty to overcome challenges and enforcement of direction from state.
