                 Melattur is a small town in Malappuram District is situated on the bank of the Velliyar river. The name Malattur came from tha malayalam word “ MELE” (above)  ARU (River) and OORU(place) ie place near upstream. The town is well connected with to perinthalmanna (17 KM) , Mannarkad(24 km), Manjeri (23 km) and Karuvarakundu (11 KM)

            Poonthanam, who was a famous Guruvayoorappan devotee and author of Jnanappana was lived in Keezhattur near Melattur.

            Melattur is one of the Railway Station in Shornur- Nilambur Railway line, which is originate in 1927. Trains to Palakkad, Eranakulam, Trivandrum are available from here.

            Government offices like Sub Registrar office, educational office, KSEB office, village and Panjayath offices, Krishibhavan, PWD Area offices and several bank branches are situated in Melattur town itself.
