High tech theft
In a new kind of high-tech theft case, police dramatically trapped and arrested the accused. Imran Khan (34), a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the Aluva Police.
On the 14th, a young man from Sampaaloor in Thrissur arrived at the TCS iON Exam Centre in Aluva on a scooter to attend an examination. He had kept his wallet and mobile phone inside the storage compartment under the scooter seat before going in for the exam. When he returned in the afternoon and opened the scooter, he found that all the items had been stolen.
When he contacted the bank to block his money, he learned that ₹65,000 had already been withdrawn from his account. He immediately filed a complaint at the Aluva Police Station.
A special investigation team was then formed, and the probe led police to the accused. Instead of stealing scooters, the accused reportedly used duplicate keys to unlock them and steal mobile phones and cash kept inside the storage compartment.
He would then insert the SIM card into another phone, visit an ATM counter, change the ATM PIN, and immediately withdraw the money. The phone used for inserting the SIM card was reportedly never used for making calls.
Police said he had carried out similar thefts in several places, including Aluva, Kilikollur in Kollam, Thrissur, parts of Tamil Nadu, and also in Uttar Pradesh
