Azheekal Coastal Police Station
The Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs have informed of the need for evolving a policy for strengthening capabilities of State Forces for saving country’s Coastal boarder against illegal cross border and criminal activities using the sea and coast. In the Phase - I of the Revised Marine Policing / Coastal Security Scheme the Ministry of Home Affairs have approved siting up of eight Coastal Police Station in Kerala Viz. Vizhinjam, Neendakara, Thottapally, Fortkochi, Azhikode, Beypore, Azheekkal and Bekal. Without formal administrative sanction of the State Government six of them have started functioning. Government of Kerala decided to start one Coastal Police Station at Azheekkal in Kannur District declaring the Building No.VIII/121 of Valapattanam Panchayath in Kannur District as Coastal Police Station, Azheekkal with the local areas of jurisdiction extending up to Twelve Nautical Miles (Territorial Waters) from the coast of Kannur Revenue District. As per the G.O.(Rt.) No.1353/2012/Home, Dtd.07/05/2012 (S.R.No.352/12) Coastal Police Station Azheekkal, started functioning on 05/06/2012 at Building No.VIII/121 of Valapattanam Panchayath in Kannur District in Old Police Quarters of Valapattanam Police Station . As per the G.O (Rt) No. 3383/2014/Home Dtd.18.12.2014 (S.R.O No.09/2015) the Station was shifted in to the new building constructed for Coastal Police Station, Azheekkal by KPHCS ,Ernakulam in Azhikode Grama Panchayath as per Building No. AP-1-329 /A , situated in R.S No.27/1B and 28/2 of Azhikode North Village in Kannur Taluk in Kannur District. The New Building was inaugurated by Sri. Ramesh Chennithala, Hon’ ble Home Minister of Kerala on 20.09.2014.
