Kottarakkara Police Station

Kottarakkara PS is the Headquarter Police Station of Kollam Rural Police District. It is under the administrative jurisdiction of the Kottarakkara Sub-division.

Kottarakkara is primarily known for its palaces and temples. The name of the town is derived from two Malayalam words – Kottaram (which means palace) and Kara (which means land). When combined, Kottarakkara literally means the land of palaces, and the name is rightly justified through its history.

The station situated by the side of the Kollam-Thirumangalam NH 744. Kottarakkara Police Station building is facing the famous “Sree Maha Ganapathy” Temple. Kottarakkara ‘Sree Maha Ganapathy Kshethram’ is a pilgrim center in South India. It is centuries old and the most important Maha Ganapathi Temple in Kerala, the main offering of this temple is Unniyappam

Kottarakkara occupies an unparalleled position in the modern cultural history of Kerala, as the place where the famous art ‘Kathakali’ was originated. Kottarakkara Tampuran who gave invented a form of dance called Ramanattam, from which modern Kathakali took its shape. He is also credited with the popularization of Kathakali among common men. Kottarakkara thus has a rich artistic history that has tremendously influenced the culture and people of this region. Sree Kottarakkara Thamburan Memorial Museum is situated 200 Meters away from this station.

Kottarakkara is an interesting mixture that includes temples, churches, palaces, and trading centers. Kottarakkara Sree Mahaganapathi Temple, Sree Manikanteswara Mahadeva Temple, Kizhakketheruvu Orthodox Valiyapalli, Kottarakkara Palace, Sadanandapuram Krishi Vigyan Kendra,  Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and Meenpidi Paara Ecotourism project are notable attractions of this station limit.

Kottarakara has one of Kerala's well-connected KSRTC hub, consist of various services across almost all the parts of Kerala and interstate services. Kottarakkara Police Station located about 1 KM west of the Kottarakkara KSRTC Bus Stand. This Police Station is 500 Meter away from Kottarakkara Railway station.

Kottarakkara Municipality, Vettikkavala, Ummannoor, Neduvathoor, and Mylom Panchayath and Vettikkavala, Ummannoor and Mylom villages are formed the geographical area of this station.

The left branch main canal of Kallada Irrigation Project passes through Sadanandapuram, in this station limit. Important Govt. offices like Mini Civil Station, Head Post Office, and Court complex are near to Kottarakkara Police Station. Kottarakkara Taluk Head Quarter Hospital is also 500 away from this Police Station. A lot of education institutions including an Engineering College are functioning within the jurisdiction of this Police Station. Kottarakara Assembly Constituency is one of the 11 assembly constituencies in Kollam district and Kottarakkara comes under the Mavelikkara Lok Sabha
