Mananthavdy Police Station

Mananthavady Police Station was opened prior to 1878. The Police Station was formally functioning at Taluk Office building till 21.02.1990. The new Police Station building was opened on 21.02.1990 .(SR No 599/3A2). Inauguration of the police station building was done by Sri. Jacob Punnoos IPS,  Dy. Inspector General of Police, Northern Range as per No GO (Rt)6282/89/Home dated 16.12.1989 It is situating southern side of Mananthavady town. The Valliyoorkavu temple where the  famous temple festival   has been celebrated is situated within station jurisdiction.

In addition to this some ancient and historic places are situated there the Right in the centre of the town at Mananthavady in Wayanad, there is an iconic monument that attracts visitors from far and near. It is the tomb of Pazhassi Raja, where thousands pay homage to the fierce ruler and warrior of the pre-Independence era. The southern side of station boundary is covered with the Thirunelly reserve forest . Station has shared the boundary with other police station ie, east to Pulppally , North to Thirunelly , west to Thalappuzha and south to Vellamunda  Police stations, All main political parties are having highly influential holding in the station jurisdiction and hence political issues are being established unpredictably. Political sensitive places are included in the station jurisdiction and hence a large number of major criminal cases are being reported in this station comparing to the others in Wayanad District

The Valliyoorkavu Bhagavathy Temple, located near Mananthavady in Wayanad district is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. Worshipped in three of principal forms of Goddess- Vana Durga, Bhadrakali and Jala Durga, the temple is famous for the annual 14-day festival. The festival falls in the Malayalam month of Meenam (From 1-14).   

The sword of Valliyooramma will be brought from the Palliyara Bhagavathy temple at Pandikkadavu near Mananthavady by the chief priest on the first day, which marks the beginning of the festival. Here the kodiyettu (ceremonial flag hoisting) is performed only on the seventh day of the festival by tribal chieftains.

The temple has many numerous rituals held during the festival include the oppana varavu, a procession from Cheramkode Bhagavathy temple at Kallody near Mananthavady and Adiyaras, a procession with tender coconut for abhishekam (ablution) marks the arattu of Valliyooramma. The festival concluded when the oppana varavu returns to Cheramkode Bhagavathy temple after the rudhirakkolam, a symbolic fight between Goddess and the demon king, Darika, in which the Bhagavathy wins. 

During the festival, the temple premises witness the performance of traditional ritual arts like Kalamezhuthum pattum, Eedum koorum (a special dance performed by orcales) and Sopananritham. The tribal dance performed by the tribe here using folk percussion instruments are another highlight of this festival.

Kuruva Dweep is another major tourist place situated in the station limits 

 Kuruva Island is a protected river delta, comprising a cluster of islands over the middle of Kabini River in Wayanad. Spread over 950 acres of land, Kuruva Island is densely populated with rich flora and fauna. The geographical peculiarity of this island makes this place evergreen with a serene ambience.
