Ottappalam Police Station

Ottappalam Police Station formed in 1859. As per the G.O (RT) 156/78/ Home Dated 23.10.1978.

The Ottappalam Police Station is situated in the middle of valluvanadu of the distance of 35 KM away from the District Headquarters. Station is being functioned in the new building since 1978 in the survey numbers as 107/2,107/12 of Ariyoor Thekkumuri Desom at Ottappalam IInd village in Ottappalam Taluk. Station jurisdiction comprises four panchayaths and one municipality ie, Vaniamkulam Grama panchayath, Ananganadi Panchayath, Ambalappara Grama panchayath, Lakkidiperur panchayath and Ottappalam Municipality. In which 9 villages and one urban area are involved. A total of 169.87 Sq kms are covering by the station jurisdiction. The Chinakkathoor temple where the nationwide famous Chinakkathoor pooram has been celebrated is situated within station jurisdiction. More over the famous Varikkassery Mana, Killikkurissimangalam, where is the birth place of Kunchan Nambiar who was known as the father of Ottam Thullan etc are situated. In addition to this some ancient and historic places are situated there. The southernside of station boundary is covered with the famous river Bharathappuzha from the start to end. Station has shared the boundary with other police station ie, east to Mankara, North to Sreekrishnapuram and Cherplassery, west to Shornur and south to Pazhayannur Police stations, All main political parties are having highly influential holding in the station jurisdiction and hence political issues are being established unpredictably. Political and communal sensitive places are included in the station jurisdiction and hence a large number of major criminal cases are being reported in this station comparing to the others in Palakkad District.
