PALODE POLICE KAVAL PROGRAMME

Palode Police's “KAVAL Project”

"KAVAL" is the Covid-19 People's Defense Program implemented in Palode Police station since August 2020 covering 38 wards of Nanniyodu, Peringamala, Panavoor Grama Panchayaths in the station limit with the co operation of Health Departments, Local self governments.

Initially, it is started an experimental basis established with the cordinated efforts of Palode Community Health Center, Palode Janamaithri Police and Nanniyode Grama Panchayath .Based on the effectiveness of this community program to prevent the spread of Covid 19  in 18 wards of Nanniyode Gramapachayath , the "Kaaval" project is being implemented in 18 wards of the Peringamala Grama Panchayath under Palode Police Station in collaboration with Peringamala PHC and peringamala grama panchayath authorities

. The program is being implemented by the help of people's representatives and officials, health workers in collaboration with the Residence Associations, Kudumbasree units, public servants and the general public.

As soon as the corona resistance started, a Jagratha Samithi were created in ward level Comprising ward member, health workers, Janamaithri Beat Officer, public servants and panchayat officials There are total 38 ward level Jagratha Samithis formed covering entire station limit. Representatives of the Residence Association, Kudumbasree volunteers was also included in this group.

To coordinate these activities, a whatsapp group was formed in each ward under the leadership of Palode police and a police officer was appointed in charge named Charge beat officer. He monitor   all covid prevention activies in touch with ward member, asha worker, health officials and general public in the ward.All activities within the station boundary can be coordinated by the SHO who has been added as the member of all the 38 WhatsApp groups.

A "KAVAL " Jagratha samithi  meeting be convened under the leadership of the ward member of each ward, health officials.asha workers and public servants selected 40/50 volunteers from Kudumbasree units, residence associations and public servants and divides the total number of houses in a ward into 10/15 units (groups) residing in the area. The plan is to contact 5/8 of these households by phone one day, enquire about the health information, report any symptoms to the WhatsApp group immediately. The health workers has to test him or her to monitor the spread of the disease by monitoring him, his family, and those in contact.

For this in all 38 wards “KAVAL” Jagratha samithi is being organized which monitors the houses by distributing the selected 1150 volunteers,(expecially women volunteer from their locality) within the Palode station limit. During such monitoring, positive cases can be detected quickly and the spread of the disease in every area can be effectively prevented.

Therefore, 125 ward level meetings have been convened so far to activate these activities in all the wards to combat the epidemic. Palode Police in collaboration with Grama Panchayath administration and the Health Department is implementing the "KAVAL" project as per the opinion of Palode CHC Medical Officer Dr. Sreejith to ensure the safety of the public within the limits of Palode Police Station during the outbreak of Covid-19 epidemic in Kerala.

In addition to the traditional work currently being done by the police, 30 policemen led by Inspector C.K Manoj of Palode Station are working on the project in connection with corona prevention. In addition, SI Nisarudeen has been given charge for overall supervision at station level , GSi Ansari have been assigned to oversees the functioning of the project in Nanniyode Gramapanchayath and Asi Anilkumar have been assigned charges of Peringamala Grama Panchayath.

The project is being implemented within the limits of the Palode Police Station by the co-ordinated work, co-operation of all government departments, socially committed people, the local self-government system with competent people's representatives who lead them, the restless working health workers and the group of volunteers who are mostly non-profit women volunteers.

In in future, the scheme is will expand to include 1575 "Kaval Janamaithri Volunteers" 15 from each ward. A "Kaaval Janamaithri Volunteer" will be assigned to five or six groups in one place to make the activities more efficient. They

1. These"Kaval Volunteers" contacts the households in his or her group of assignments to see if people with the disease, those who have been diagnosed with the disease, those who have been in contact, and those who have not been in contact with the Covid protocols can report health information to the health workers and the police. By this the spread of the disease can be prevented to a great extent.

2. The Department of Health, the Sectoral Magistrate and the Police can pay more attention to the places by collecting information about the ceremonies such as marriages and deaths that take place in houses.

3. The health department and the police can be informed and monitored for information on people coming from abroad and from other states.

4. Kaval Volunteers can provide necessary assistance (purchase of medicines and essential items) to the people sitting in Quarantine, for monitoring /giving awareness along with police / health department officials for monitoring in containment zones and so on.

5. People need to be vaccinated as soon as possible to achieve effective immunity to Covid-19 disease. At present the vaccine is distributed through online registration. Too many people are incapable of this. Calling them at any place for registration will only increase the spread of the disease. In such cases, the Volunteers can be used to reach homes in the area where they are assigned and register everyone on the Cowin Portal by the Central Government.

These volunteers can be used in an emergency situation arising due to any natural calamities in station limit for rescue operations. Palode police also have QUICK RESPONSE TEAM & Whatsapp group under the leadership of SHO  CK MANOJ, comprising all the Govt departments officials to speed up the rescue operations in an emergency.The above volunteers can use in such activites.

Through the "KAVAL" Whatsapp groups covering entire station limit receives many informations from the Public that also helps effective policing in that area. This whatsapp group is also effective to share information from Police station to public. with this Social media network we can send any announcement from Police Station to every nook and corner of station limit with in a short time

Palode police is effectively trying to confront Covid's Second Wave with help of the People’s Participation.
