One arrested for misappropriating nearly Rs 1 crore.

A temporary employee of Matsyafed has been arrested in connection with a case of misappropriating around Rs 1 crore from the income generated from the anthipacha of Matsyafed. The arrested has been identified as Mahesh (32), son of Manikandan of Kochukali Azhikath in Vady in Kollam district.

The accused was working as a temporary employee at a pre-processing centre in Sakthikulangara for the past seven years. He and his aide, second accused Animon, misappropriated Rs 94 lakh by reducing the turnover amount received from the fisheries department's anthipacha vehicle between January and September last year. It was only after an audit that it was found that a huge amount of money had been swindled. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the manager of sakthikulangara pre-processing centre. Both the accused went into hiding and later the first accused Mahesh was arrested from a relative's house. The second accused, Animon, is a permanent employee and a junior assistant. He's in hiding. The arrest was made on the basis of a tip-off received by the district police chief Narayanan T.IPS.

A team led by Kollam Assistant Commissioner of Police G.D. Vijayakumar and comprising Sakthikulangara Inspector Biju.U, SI Asha I.V, ASIs Darwin and Sudarsanan and CPOs Noufal and Aneesh nabbed him.
