Sooranadu Police Station

Sooranadu Station was opened on 26-10-1955 Vide G.O No.H2-2069/55 Dated 30-09-1955. This Police station is under the administrative jurisdiction of the Sasthamcotta  Sub Division. Sooranadu Police Station is located about 200 meters away from Chakkuvally Junction. In front of the Police Station Sree Chakkuvally Parahbrahma Temple and Govt. HSS Poruvazhy situated. The geographical area of the station includes 3 villages – Sooranadu North, Sooranadu South, and Poruvazhy and 3 Panchayath Sooranadu North, Sooranadu South, and Poruvazhy. The station is situated adjacent to Kollam–Theni National High Way.

A tributary of the Kallada River named Pallikkal River flows through the northwest border of the station. Birthplace of famous Malayalam writer Sri. Sooranadu Kunjan Pillai is in Sooranadu. Sooranadu is one of the border Police stations of Kollam Rural and shares its border with Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts.

There are many markets in Sooranad Station limit such as Kannamath chandha, Vayyankara chantha, and Parakkadavu chantha. The main employment for men and women of the village is cashew nut processing, hence the large number of cashew factories operating within the station limits. There are many brick factories in Sooranadu and most of the workers in these factories are from other states. 

There are many temples in Sooranad PS limit including, Anayadi  Pazhayidam Narasimhamoorthi Temple, Puthiyidam Sreekrishnaswami Temple and Poruvazhy Peruviruthi  Malanada Temple. A large elephant festival named ‘Anayadi Gajamela‘ takes place at Anayadi Narasimha Moorthy Temple and involves hundred-odd caparisoned elephants lined up accompanied by a traditional orchestra. Kerala’s one and only Duryodhana Temple, Poruvazhy Peruviruthi  Malanada Temple is situated 3 km east of this Police station,  festival of this temple is very famous in South India.
