CHIRI, Counseling over the telephone ..
CHIRI is a project started by the Kerala Police to alleviate the mental stress of children. The project was started to provide relief to children who were forced to stay at home following the COVID 19 outbreak. Not only children but also teachers and parents call the helpline number 9497900200 with their problems. Difficulties in learning online, not being able to see, talk and play with friends, family quarrels, and lack of access to learning materials are the main things children share with the 'CHIRI' Call Center. Most of the calls from parents were for solutions to the excessive use of mobile phones and child suicide threats. This includes people who call for solutions to serious mental problems. They were immediately provided with the services of experienced psychologists from the 'CHIRI' Call Center. Children also provide telephone counseling for children with mental health problems. The 'CHIRI' volunteers are about 300 specially trained children selected from senior student police cadets and children who are members of the Our Responsibility to Children program. They are guided by an expert panel of service-minded and experienced mental health professionals, psychologists and teachers.
