ARALAM Police Station

The origin of the name Aralam is supposed as the land is rounded with six rivers and the other opinion is that the land of Six ‘Illams’ ( House of Namboothiries). At first Aralam Panchayath ie existing limit of Aralam PS limit is part of Karikottakari Police station which was come in to existence on 08.9.1979 GO(Rt)No.1800/78/Home dtd 6.9.1979. As per GO(Rt) No.314/84 the entire Aralam Panchayath was separated from Karikotakari station and a new police station was opened at Keezhpally named as Aralam Police Station on.4.2.1984. The station was started functioning in existing building on 22.12.1989. Aralam PS is bound on the south by the natural frontier of “Cheenkanni” River and on the west by Payam village of Iritty PS. On the northern limit has Ayyankunnu village of Karikottakari PS and Eastern side is Aralam Farm and Karnataka Forest areas. . The ancient tribal of this limits are "Paniyas" who are prominent and "Kurichiyas" who are scares in numbers. Maoist activists are trying to influence among the tribal peoples by interfering their needs and exploiting their backward possition. The ancient tribal of this limits are "Paniyas" who are prominent and "Kurichiyas" who are scares in numbers. The total jurisdiction area of police station covers about 128.78 Sq.Kms. This station is situated about 60 Kms away from District HQ Kannur. Important hospital in the PS limit is PHC Athikkal. SreeNarayana College Veerpad is the only one Arts College in the PS limit. Office of the Asst Wild Life Warden of Kottiyur Range is fuctioning also at Valayanchal) The famed Aralam Farm was originally established by the Government of India in the year 1970 with the assistance of erstwhile Soviet Union. It is situated in the Kappad and Aralam Villages of the Thalassery Taluk of Kannur District, 56 km away from Thalassery and Kannur Town and 16 km from Iritty Town. The Farm was subsequently taken over by the SC & ST Development Department, Government of Kerala, to distribute 50% of the area to the landless tribals and the remaining 50% area to run as a Farm for the welfare of tribals to be settled in the Aralam Farm. Later the Aralam Farming Corporation (Kerala) Limited, a fully Government owned Company registered under Companies Act 1956, under the administrative control of Scheduled Caste & Scheduled Tribes Development Department, was incorporated on 10th June 2010. Its Registered Office is at Aralam. The farm is spread over 3500 acres encircled by rivulets and Aralam Wild Life Sanctuary. The main objectives of the Farm are to produce and distribute quality planting materials of plantation/horticultural crops and also commercial production of crops in large scale and above all to provide all manner of support services to further the social and economic welfare of the tribal resettled in Aralam.
