Jurisdiction of Fort Kochi Coastal Police Station

A committee was formed under the Ministry of Home Affaires on 28.06.2006, for the formation of Coastal Police Stations in all the coastal states for strengthening the coastal security. For the operation of the Coastal Police Stations throughout India, a code of conduct was introduced and is called as Standard Operations Procedure (SOP). The Coastal Police Station – Fortkochi is also working under the rules of SOP. The jurisdiction of Coastal Police Stations is referred in the chapter – 3 of SOP. As per this, the jurisdiction of the Coastal Police Station is 12 Nautical Miles (1 Nautical Mile = 1.852 Kms.) from the ‘Lowest Coast Line’. It is also mentions that the respective state governments can include certain regions or places or villages to the jurisdiction of Coastal Police Stations through special orders or notifications. In the case of the Coastal Police Station – Fortkochi, as per the GO (Rt.) No.242/2011/Home-Tvm., Dated: 24.01.2011, government made a Gazette Order, that the jurisdiction of Coastal Police Station – Fortkochi is 12 Nautical Mile of territorial waters from the base line.
