KARIKKOTTAKARI Police Station

Karikottakari Police station came in to existence on 08.9.1979 as per GO(Rt) No.1800/ 78/ Home dtd 6.9.1979. This station was started functioning in a rented building No. AP VII/219 on 8.9.1979 at Karikottakari. As per GOCRt.314/84 the entire Aralam Panchayath was separated from the station and a new police station was opened at Keezhpally named as Aralam Police Station on.5.2.1984. This station was shifted from the rented building to new Govt. Building No. VII/972on 25.5.1990 as per GO(Rt)No. 6487/89/ Home. dtd 26.12.1989. Karikottakari is bound on the south by the natural frontier of "Vempuzha" and on the west by a bigger river "Valiyapuzha" which is also known as Koottupuzha having its origin from Sahiyadri Mountain. On the northern limit it has Karnataka state and Iritty police station limits. The land which forms the station limit is infested with hillocks. Sloppy areas of the limits named as "Karis' like Karikottakari, Enthumkari, Murikumkari etc. The ancient tribal of this limits are "Paniyas" who are prominent and "Kurichiyas" who are scarce in number. The Police station Building of Karikkottakkari is a very old building. First part of it was built by PWD. Then the extention work was done by Police Housing Construction Society. There is only one quarters in the station that is for SI. There is enough land to build up quarters.The total jurisdiction area of police station covers about 165 Sq.Kms. This station is situated about 54 Kms away from Kannur town. Famous MundayamparambBhagavathi temple is situated just 4 Kms away from the police station. Some part of eastern border of the station limit is shared with Kerala Forest and a part of station limits comprise hilly areas. The north- east part is included in Karnataka state and South- east parts are included in Aralam and Payam Panchayat. The entire area is having an inflex of settlers especially Christians. There are 10 Christian Chruches situated in Karikkottakkari PS Limit. They are SACRED HEART CHURCH ANGADIKADAVU,ST.JOSEPH'S CHURCH RANDAMKADAVU, ST.SEBASTIAN'S CHURCH CHARAL, INFANT JESUS CHURCH VANIYAPPARA,ST MARY'S CHURCH URUPPUMKUTTY ,ST.JOSEPH'S CHURCH EDAPPUZHA,LURDU MATHA CHURCH KOTTUKAPPARA,VYAKULA MATHA CHURCH PARAKAPPARA,ST JUDE SHRINE ST.JUDE and major festivals in the Station Limit are, MUNDAYAMPARAMBA TEMPLE FESTIVAL- April & December , KARIKOTTAKARI ST.THOMAS CHURCH FESTIVAL,- January, ANGADIKADAVU SACRED HEART CHURCH FESTIVAL -Febraury , ST.JUDE SHRINE FESTIVAL - MAY .
