This was formerly an Out Post attached to the Perinthalmanna Police Station and upgraded as a charging station from 01/06/1968 as per GO(RT) No. 226/Home/68 dated 29/05/1968.The jurisdiction comprises a portion formerly attached to the Perinthalmanna Police Station.
This station comprises of villages and this has been in divisions to 3 Beat areas.
Short History of the Areas
Total area of the station jurisdiction is 28569.13 area. The rural are consisting of the Panchayaths of Kuruva ,Moorkanad ,Puzhakkattiri and north west side of the Pulamanthole Panchayath of Perinthalmanna Taluk. The Madras- Calicut Main road , Perinthalmanna Kuttipuram road , Malappuram-Perinthalmanna (via) Puzhakkattiri and Malappuram – Kottakkal road passes through the station jurisdiction .No Railway line passes through the station limit. The nearest Railway station is Angadipuram 9Kms away. There are regular bus services through the station limit .The station situating near the Perinthalmanna – Kuttipuram-Malappuram road junction.
Kolathur Police Station came to existence on 15/07/1968 vide GO Rt. No. 226/Home/68. Dtd 29/05/1968 at Kolathur Vayambatta . The new station building was inaugurated on 02.06.1978 vide GO Rt. 960/78/Home dtd. 15.05.1978 in survey No.124/2, 3, 37 Cent of Moorkkanad village, situated at Kolathur.
Historical Importance
Kolathur is a small town in Malappuram district. It connects Malappuram with Pattambi and Perinthalmanna with Valancheri . At Kurupathal junction; there is a bus station. Vayambatta thalappoli,Ambalappadi ayyappanvilakku are the great festivals of Kolathur. Kolathur "NERCHA" was very famous festival in the region. Kolathur is in Moorkkanad panchayath. It is situsted very near to "Paloor Kotta" the historical palace of Tippu Sulthan.
