POTHUKALLU Police Station

 

The Police Station started functioning from 12/03/2006. Pothukallu Police Station is situated in Pothukallu Village building number vii/46A comprising of 5 cents.The Govt of Kerala, as per notification, published as  S.R. O No 595/06 and GO(Rt) 1864/05 Home dated 14/08/2006 govt gazette notification and GO(Rt) 33/2006/2006 Home TVM dtd 22.02.2006, declared the building as pothukal police station on 14 th august 2006.

         The Pothukal Police station is situated in the northern part of the Nilambur thaluk, in the valley of western ghats.  The revenue juridstiction of the police station is the full part of the Pothukallu and Kurumbalangode villages and partly Chungathara and Edakkara village.  The 60% of boundaries are coverd by the forest of the Nilambur north division.  The forest boundaries borders Mappadi PS of Wayanad district in the North- West, Devala and Cherampadi police stations of Nilgiri, Tamilnadu state in the North and North-East . The other bordering stations are Edakkara, Vazhikkadavu and Nilambur police stations of Malappuram district..  The main transportation route is Munderi-Palunda and Erumamunda -Nilambur roads.  The population is about 80000 residing in 18000 houses approaximately. The population comprises of Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities. The tribal population dwelling in forest and other areas of pothukal belongs to Cholanayikka, Aranada and Paniya tribes. 75% of the population depend upon agricultural and allied activities for their livelihood. The main cultivations are Rubber, Coconut, Banana and Paddy. Adyanpara waterfalls and the hydroelectric project promoting hydel tourism, Asia's largest seed farm situated in Munderi and the river Chaliyar are the main attractions of pothukal.

Pothukal police station comes under Nilambur Sub Division of  Malappuram district (Earlier it was part of Perinthalmanna Sub Division. With the formation of Nilambur Sub Division, pothukal ps became part of Nilambur sub division)
