Flood Rescue operation
On 16.08.2018 at 10:00 HRS telephone information received from Sri. Poovattoor Surendran, Member of Kulakkada Grama Panchayath regarding 18 families of Attuvassery natives were stranded in the alarming floodwater from Kallada River. They were helpless to escape by themselves and if any delay in rescue operations, it will result in a tragedy. On receiving the information suddenly Puthoor Sub Inspector Sri. Ratheesh Kumar and his police party including GASI Sri. Babukutta Kurup and CPO 5989 Sri. Jayachandran reached at the flood-affected area of Attuvaserry. Then there were many elected representatives of three-tier local self-government institutions and the general public. The water level becoming more and higher. Then suddenly gave warning alarms and announcements to the stranded people regarding the crucial and dangerous situation through the public addressing system of Puthoor Police station’s Department Vehicle. Then arranged long ropes and coracles, and big ‘Varps’ for rescue operation with the help of the public. The long ropes tied with electric post and big trees in the flooded public road in order to avoid misdirection in water and easy the evacuation and to avoid accidents during the rescue. The road was in between paddy lands. The road was in flood of 1.5-meter height. Then the police party crossed the flooded road and arrived at the stranded people. Some of them were reluctant to leave their house and articles. Repeated warnings and advise the people were ready to leave their home and rescued them to the nearby relief camp of Attuvassery NSS UPS. The stranded people include Senior Citizens, Ladies, Children and handicapped. While on the rescue operation, SHO Puthoor informed the situations report to all superior officers including the District Police Chief and received valuable suggestions and orders for the rescue operation. By this rescue operation, the Puthoor PS police team save the life of 15 families consisting of 60 members.
