TANUR Police Station
This Station which was an OUT POST of Tirur Police Station was upgraded with effect from 28.02.1962 (Vide G.O (RT) No. 305/Home/D/Dated 19.02.1962) with a strength of 1 Sub Inspector, 1 Head Constable and 10 Police Constables. This Station was functioning in a Government building till 09.08.1975, on which date this was shifted to a rented building and now it is being shifted to the new building (Vide G.O (RT) No. 3541/88/Home/ Dated 15.07.1988). The function inaugurated by Sri. RAJAGOPAL NARAYAN, Hon. Director General of Police, Kerala, in the presence of Sri. PADMANABHAN, DIG-NR Calicut. The present strength of the Police Station is 1 Inspector, 2 Sub Inspector, 3 Assistant Sub Inspector, 6 Head Constables 33 Police Constables 6 Woman Police Costables and 1 Driver Police Constable.
The Station jurisdiction comprises of 6 villages Tanur, Tanalur, Ozhur, Niramaruthur, Nannambra, Pariyapuram. Arabian Sea is lying on West and South, East and North are surrounded by Tirur, Kalpakanchery, Tirurangadi and Parappanangadi Police Station limits respectively. The Station comes under Tanur Constituancy, The population as per the 2011 census is 148962. Of these the Muslims forms the majority.
This is a highly sensitive Station from communal and political point of view. The recent communal flare up took place in the year 1983 between Muslims and Hindus following the misbehavior of a Muslim towards a Hindu girl during the “Kalamkari” festival at Shoba Parambu Temple.
